Like many of their neighbors, the Collins family was of Irish-Catholic descent, a fact they took as much pride in as they did their hardworking American roots. Brady's maternal grandmother was a music teacher, and for the toddler's second birthday she gave him a toy piano, which quickly became his favorite toy. His interest in music was strongly encouraged by his grandmother, and as soon as he was old enough he began piano lessons in earnest, then moved on to other instruments as well. The Collins' next door neighbors were the Fitzpatrick family, whose son Kyle was Brady's age and their son Brian a year younger. Rather naturally, the boys became close friends and did nearly everything together. Just like Brady, the Fitzpatrick boys also took a strong interest in music and eventually picked up instruments as well. When they entered high school, the three boys befriended two other boys, Adam Kelly and Mike Cavanaugh, and in Brady's junior year of high school it was decided that the boys would form their own band. Calling themselves the Sons of Uisneach after an Irish folk tale, their sound was influenced by both the rock and punk bands they listened to on the radio as well as the traditional Irish music they grew up listening to at family gatherings, and by the time Brady graduated, the band had begun to pick up a little money playing at parties. At his parents' insistence, Brady had applied for a music scholarship at Boston University and was accepted, though as the band became more popular, his academic work began to suffer. They were less than pleased when he dropped out at the end of his sophomore year to concentrate on the band, but the band's popularity had increased by that point and the guys were beginning to feel confident that they might be able to make a living with their music. Bolstered by word of mouth, the band soon came to the attention of a few small record labels, and in late 2000 had been signed and begun work on their first album, which came out in 2001. It was hardly a platinum effort, but sales were pretty solid, as were ticket sales for the band's first tour. As the tour began, more word of mouth spread and ticket sales picked up even more. The band soon became known for their boisterous shows, their hard partying afterwards, and their accessibility to their fans. In particular, Brady picked up the reputation of a roguish charmer with an eye for the ladies, and as the band's popularity grew, rumors spread about him and more than one female celebrity. However, drinking and womanizing aren't the only things Brady is known for. Along with the other guys in the band, he is respected in the music industry for having an extremely strong work ethic. Despite their reputation for partying, the band members know when it's time to buckle down to work, and there have never been any reports of diva-like behavior from any of the guys. Though they haven't quite achieved mainstream success, their album and concert ticket sales remain solid, and they are currently working on their sixth album. In addition, Brady has received a few acting offers and is currently considering the possibility of branching out, though music will always remain his first love. Credits: Here Other stuff: |
