Biography: Judah Weinstein may as well have been born with a literal golden spoon in his mouth for all the privilege he grew up with. By the time he was five, his parents had secured his placement in Manhattan’s best schools all the way until his senior year. His trust fund at age 10 was double what most of his classmates’ would be when they hit maturity. He was spoiled rotten, petulant, hard to handle. By the time he was old enough to take care of himself, his parents had gone through most of the nannies in the state. By the time he hit college in ’79, it was clear he was bound for some sort of trouble. A year at Harvard did nothing for him, and as the 80s dawned, Judah (now going by Jude) had found his way to the West Coast where he was busy living off of cocaine and his trust fund. Though his parents were against what he was doing, his father was too busy amassing more of a fortune and his mother was on too many pills to really care. He was told to keep his activities to himself, and while he appeared on the society pages his fair share of times, his extensive drug use and womanizing ways were generally kept on the quiet: everyone knew about them, but no one spoke of them. 1983, however, changed all of that. Sharon Crosby was beautiful and young, and more than that, she had no idea of his past. With a hunger to get famous, she made an easy mark and without much trouble, Jude found himself squarely in the girl’s pants. For a while, it was perfect in a fucked up sort of way, but then Sharon got pregnant and Jude found himself in the midst of a problem he couldn’t just magically get his way out of. Amazingly enough, the ‘situation’ (as his parents called it) was taken care of. A large sum of money was handed over, and that was that. Jude was scolded, sent to rehab. It wasn’t his fault, not really. She was a money-grubbing bitch according to his father, and Jude had a drug problem. So away he went, for thirty days in a facility that really did nothing other than tell him exactly what he wanted to hear. He stayed clean for a month after that, almost ended up going back to school. Hell, he almost tracked down Sharon but a party in the valley got crazy and a girl offered Jude a fantastic drug called heroin and before he could blink he found himself so far gone he couldn’t remember a time when he wasn’t skin and bones. His parents cut him off, his friends started abandoning him but Jude kept using. For years, he spiraled into a deeper hole. He might still be there to this day, except for chance. How was he to know there was was a DEA investigation going on over his dealer? That they’d choose that day to bust the man’s operation? Jude learned the hard way that the worst way to sober up was in jail, and by the time it came around to the trail, Jude would have said anything if just to get out of the place. He rolled in the end; found his own charges dropped down to a misdemeanor on the condition he go to rehab. This time, however, the facility wasn’t one to please the rich. The beds were hard, roommates were crazy. The schedule was almost as strict as the discipline and amazingly enough it worked. Jude was miserable for most of his time there, but he also came to the realization of how fucked up his life really was. It shouldn’t have stuck, he should have gone back to using, but with support through NA and outpatient treatment through the same center, he was able to go completely sober. The next few years were hard. Jude waited tables and kept a small apartment with another recovering addict, did his best to get his life back in order. He changed his name to Jude Weber legally and broke association with his parents. While the audition for a small part on a new show called Friends wasn’t an accident, he wasn’t exactly expecting to get it, either. It was just a way of getting past his fear of his rejection, of exposing himself. When he got it, well, he was as surprised as anyone else. The small role turned into a semi-reoccurring role and by the end of the year, he had his first real role, co-starring in a film by the name of Bottle Rocket by a director no one had really heard of. The film wasn’t amazing, but it didn’t flop either and the roles slowly started to come in for Jude. Daniel Pirsig gave Jude another chance in his next movie and while Jude never achieved leading man status he at least got acclaim as a character actor. Work was always there, the money got better, Jude stayed sober and found himself happy for once. In 2004, Jude found himself with his own show and a son. While Jude wasn’t about to marry OPEN, they were happy enough, and while Ari wasn’t expected, he wasn’t a disappointment, either. The couple fell into the habit of happy family easy enough and just as Huff was getting cancelled for what Jude felt was bullshit reasons, the couple received news of another child. Norah was born just two days after Jude found out he had aced his audition for SNL. By 2008, OPEN and Jude had ended their romantic relationship but started a friendship. His spot on SNL became certain; his 20th year of sobriety was celebrated. Life was perfect, except for that one little thing. It started with the nightmares, the half-remembrance of the reason he had gone to rehab the first time around. 25 years down the road, and Jude couldn’t even remember the last name of that girl, but a little digging did the trick and in mid-2009, Jude found out the name of the daughter he had allowed his parents to sell away so that his name wouldn’t be tarnished. The fact that Anise Crosby was such a public figure didn’t make the decision an easy one. For the entire summer, Jude sat on the information, unsure what to do. However, with the prompting of OPEN, Jude has gotten to work on figuring out how to tell Anise the truth, and how to deal with it himself Credits:here Other Stuff: Technically lives with the mother of his children: they converted two old apartments into one by adding two bedrooms and a playroom between them. Each retains separate living spaces, but both have access to the kids. Amazingly, this has created no problems. * Despite growing up in Yankees territory, Jude is an avid Mets fan. * Loves basketball, and will cheer for any team playing the Lakers * Misses beer more than anything |
