first ssg show!!
Hey guys, it's Hannah. I am cross-posting this here and on the forums, but as some of you know from one of my earlier posts, I have flown out to America to catch Jules on his tour!! You know I couldn't miss his first StopSlowGo show ever! God bless the Soundwave boys (and all their projects, past present and future) for dealing with their crazy fans. I have been jetlagged as all hell so this is a few days late, but I have news of how his show went!
The poor thing looked utterly exhausted, but from what he told everyone when he came out, his flight had just gotten in hours before the show and he hadn't slept a wink. Yikes! I got in the night before he did and CRASHED for half a day! He seemed a little sad, too, especially when he was walking around before the show, but I didn't want to bother him because he was with his sister Kheri (who is so nice!! I have spoken to her on here but this was my first time meeting her! She was a doll!) and he didn't seem to be in a good mood at all. Maybe he was just tired... or does anyone have news on how Alfie is doing? People were speculating after the ARIAs that he wasn't well? He can't be too bad off if Jules still flew out, though.
He seemed pretty mellow while setting up, which isn't the Jules we all know and love. Has anyone EVER seen him where he wasn't bouncing everywhere and chatting nonstop? I was worried, but when the show began he completely transformed. And man, when I first heard the SSG demos he let out earlier this year, my initial reaction was "there is NO WAY that is Jules singing", but seriously guys, the kid has lungs. You wouldn't expect it from such a tiny guy, but I honestly don't think he needed a mic. There was so much energy in his performance, and whatever was bringing him down before the show didn't stop him from being hyper as hell again. I have never seen someone dance and jump around so much in my life. I seriously think he was getting it all out of his system at once after years of sitting behind a drumset for every show.
I didn't bring my good camera with me (which I am still so mad about!) but I got a few decent shots. They'll all be up in the fansite gallery later, but here's a couple pictures:
Does that striped singlet look familiar to anyone else? The whole time he was playing I couldn't put my finger on it, but I have seen it before, and it's nothing like what he usually wears. Then it hit me..
He's totally wearing Alfie's clothes!!
From what I remember from his setlist, he opened up with Pocket. Then he did Too Many Questions, Sick, Recycle It, Cottonmouth, Black and Gold (oh my GOD everyone FREAKED when that song started), and 21st Century Life. He milked his set for all it's worth, though, and stretched it out way longer than I expected. He could not stop talking between songs. He definitely has crowd interaction mastered. I'll have some videos up soon too... he killed the battery in my camera, between the clips I took of his songs and his ramblings. The boy doesn't shut up, but he was entertaining as fuck.
He closed the set up by covering U2's With Or Without You, which he explained beforehand was Kheri's favourite song ever. He cracked a few jokes about how she always sobbed all over herself during it when she watched Looking For Alibrandi, but then he got all mushy and wished her a happy birthday. The song itself was amazing, he sang it so well! I almost cried! Kheri was in the wings BAWLING, and when he finished she ran out and nearly tackled him to the floor. It was one of the cutest things I have ever seen, and luckily that is one of the videos that will be up shortly!
I caught up to him after the show as he was starting to go out the doors, and when I asked if I was bothering him, he smiled and was all like "NO! Not at all!" and proceeded to hold my hand the whole way outside. He is the sweetest guy ever, I don't know why some people on the boards say he's an asshole? He has always been an angel to me. When we got outside he was a little busy signing things, but he talked to me the whole time. He remarked on my accent and I told him I flew out for the show, and he seemed so surprised. But didn't a few other people do that/aren't some of you doing it? I know
small_print was going to try and come out for a few shows? Anyway, I told him I was also flying to New York for the Halloween show and he offered to guestlist me! He is really so fucking nice. He was out for a good hour or so talking to everyone, and when a Soundwave song (Supermassive Black Hole) came on the speakers outside the venue, he started dancing with people and laughing. He seemed so much more cheerful than he did earlier, but after awhile he excused himself then stepped away and got on his phone. He was definitely talking to Alfie, and a few of the girls were acting like meerkats and trying to listen in on the conversation. It was really pathetic, but I did overhear him saying "I love you" before he hung up. Oh and by the way, his ring is beautiful. One girl had asked about it so he showed it to us and was smiling SO big. He has such a lovesick puppy way about him, I love it!! He seems way happier than he did with Lily.
Kheri must have found someone to buy her drinks (fucking drinking age in America) because she came stumbling out completely drunk. But she was really nice and talked to us for awhile too, then Jules piggybacked her back inside. Those two are so cute, you can tell he's close to his sister. After that I headed back to my hotel room and crashed again, but I will finish putting up the pics and videos within the next couple hours! And I will post again with more goodies after the Halloween fun! Overall, I had an amazing time. Jules put on a great show, and he was a total sweetheart. Definitely goes down as one of the best shows I've ever been to.
