atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers It was Halloween in Louisa, Virginia the night that Emmett Kinsella was born. Born a month early to Nolan Kinsella and Charlotte Walsh-Kinsella, the young couple always joked that his inability to wait until his due date was just the first of many times they would see how impatient their son could be. They also joked that being born on halloween made him a nightmare child but it would be another year or two before Emmett started terrorizing anyone and everyone (namely his older brother), and they realized just how right they were. Nolan Kinsella, the owner of Kinsella Luxury Suites, a chair of hotels that flourished across the east coast, often spent most of his time working and his priorities rarely fell to Emmett. The same could be said for Charlotte's priorities. Born of old southern money, Charlotte was often more concerned about lunch with her girlfriends and being a trophy wife than she was about the challenges that came with raising her children. For this reason, Emmett was more or less raised by a handful of nannies that his parents wealth afforded them and his older brothers but it wasn't ever something he considered a great tragedy in his life. Throughout his childhood Emmett grew accustomed to getting whatever he wanted. For a long time this meant any frivolous thing that he fancied. Whether it was the newest and hottest toy or something that he saw in a store window, Emmett knew that all he had to do was point and whatever he wanted was his. It wasn't until he started to take an interest in music that this became beneficial to him. Once his passion for music developed he let his parents spoil him with musical instruments and with any and every album that he could even think to ever want. While other boys his age were interested in sports and girls, Emmett's entire focus was on music and getting closer to the music scene. As a teenager Emmett began to develop a more pragmatic sense of the world. It wasn't until he'd reached his early teenage years that he became less of a spoiled brat. At least not in personality. While he still spent his money as he saw fit and while he still never denied himself anything, Emmett grew out of the childish phase and also grew out of throwing temper tantrums every time he was told no. When his father saw that he was starting to take on a more mature attitude toward the family's wealth, he opted to allot Emmett a small trust that he could do with as he saw fit. The boy already had a large trust fund that he would inherit on his eighteenth birthday, but he was given early access to a sum of money when his father thought that he could handle it. Nolan never considered to actually stop and think about what putting that kind of money into the hands of a young teenager might do and instead he allowed Emmett free reign over it. With an exceptionally large amount of money at his disposal Emmett threw himself into the music scene. While his older brothers were partying and spending all of his own money on whatever they saw fit, Emmett went in the other direction. He bought himself a guitar and all the equipment he could need to start recording a demo for himself. With a few of his friends from school, Emmett started tinkering around in the basement of his parents house. Emmett had been writing lyrics for a while with the idea of a band in mind and now that he had one he set to trying to put a sound behind his words. The biggest problem that the young musician soon faced was the fact that he wanted to have strict control over everything that the band did. He didn't mesh well with a few of his friends and band members started dropping in and out of the band like they were getting paid to quit and come back. Eventually a second incarnation of Emmett's dream band popped up with the original guitarist but with a new drummer and new bass player. He found very quickly that when he worked with musicians he meshed well with that there was less of a problem with his control issues because they were already doing things the way he wanted them to be done. It took a little under two months once the band was settled for them to have a well put together demo. Like most musicians, Emmett found himself anxious and unsettled by the slow response time from the music studios that he'd sent his band to. Discouraged, he and the band settled for playing live shows for the locals, though he quickly found that it wasn't a good way to make a name for himself. With increasingly dark lyrics and the occasional anti-religious line, the people in his small hometown didn't take well to his band and so he decided it was time to branch out as much as they could. It was a stroke of luck that Emmett caught sight of a flyer for a battle of the bands and he fronted the 300 dollar entry fee with no real hope of winning but just desperately wanting a place where he could play his music without having things thrown at him. Little did he know that not only would he be greeted by an enthusiastic crowd that was interested in his music but that there was also an agent from a fairly large name record label at the show that night. The agent had come to sign another band that was playing in the show but when he heard Emmett's band play he made a few calls and rearranged his flights back to Los Angeles so that he could stay and talk to Emmett. At first Emmett thought it was a joke someone was playing on him but as soon as the man started talking contracts he quickly sobered from his playful attitude into business mode. At barely fifteen, Emmett Kinsella and The Walking Dead had managed to land themselves a record contract. Things turned into a whirlwind from there. With his parents permission, Emmett and the band headed out to Los Angeles to record their first studio album. The album was fifteen previously unrecorded tracks that Emmett had been working on since the band had started their first demo. The songs off of the first demo were unreleased in a collection though several of them started to leak after the band gained a little notoriety in 2003, just a year after their first studio album was released. Once the album was released it mad a big splash in the music industry and though he wasn't instantly popular, frequent touring and promotional gigs allowed for the band to make a legitimate name for themselves in the record industry. It was the beginning of a three year stretch that saw one more album and near constant touring until Emmett was so exhausted and so stressed out over the way things were going that he nearly disbanded The Walking dead. The year Emmett turned eighteen he took a sabbatical from the band. He took just one year off and in that year he spent a lot of time writing and re-evaluating the band's sound and also working on a side project that he had had in mind since the formation of The Walking Dead. With the lead guitarist from The Walking Dead, Emmett ventured into a side project that he named Near Miss. With a softer, more melodic sound, Near Miss was a gateway band that not only brought Emmett more recognition but also drew more fans in for The Walking Dead. Over the two and a half years Near Miss released two records. The band toured as the opening band for another big name band before setting off to headline a small tour of their own after the release of their second album. While working with Near Miss was still stressful, it was relaxing to take the time to do something with a smaller, lesser known band than The Walking Dead, and for him to make the type of music he'd been wanting to make. There was less pressure for everything to be perfect this time around now that he had established himself in the record business and he wasn't trying like mad to keep a hold of his record contract. However, after the end of a two month tour, Emmett decided that he wanted the next album to be a Walking Dead album and he announced that the group would be coming out of their sabbatical to release a third studio album. The album will be released in early March with a tour following at the end of April. |
