Biography: Meagan Elizabeth Dylan was born February 8, 1986 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Parents Margaret (a photographer) and Alex Dylan (a producer and writer) divorced when Meagan was still very young, and both remarried when Meagan was five. Although born in Canada, Meagan spent most of her childhood going back and forth between Vancouver and Santa Monica in order to visit her father and step-mother in California during summer vacations. Naturally her parents’ work in the business is what helped inspire Meagan to want to entertain. She told her mother at a very young age that she wished to be a famous actress someday—and being ambitious, even as a child—she was able to convince her parents to help her find an agent.

For several years in her young childhood, Meagan modelled professionally in Vancouver. At the age of eight she starred in her first feature film, A Little Princess, as the temperamental, screaming young girl Lottie. Although the role was small, it allowed Meagan the chance to kick the tires a bit, and it was the first taste she needed in order to realize this was what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. However, given the fact that she was so young and unable to move around, Meagan remained stationary in Vancouver and was told to focus on school until she was older. She continued modelling, and four years after her first foray into film, Meagan earned another small role in the romantic comedy Practical Magic.

1999 brought a chance for Meagan to really try out her acting chops. She starred in The Virgin Suicides (adaption of the Jeffrey Eugenides novel) as Cecilia Lisbon, the youngest daughter in the doomed Lisbon family. The story tells the tale of the five Lisbon sisters and the young male neighbours obsessed with them after Cecilia takes her own life. Only thirteen at the time, Meagan had to relocate briefly to Toronto, Ontario. Luckily, the majority of the filming took place during the summer, so school wasn’t a concern for Meagan or her family. After a well-received performance in this film, Meagan disappeared from the movie scene for another four years before being seen again.

At the age of sixteen, Meagan decided to make the move to Santa Monica full time in order to focus on her career and not just on school. In the same year, Meagan began filming The Ring in Seattle, Washington. Her role as Katie Embry was only featured in the beginning of the film, but regardless, Meagan had to take a private tutor with her while she was in Washington. Instead of going back to a public school institution, Meagan continued working with private tutors until she graduated from high school in 2003. While her mother had hoped that Meagan would decide to go to post-secondary school, Meagan decided to put off university indefinitely in order to keep acting. In 2002-2003, Meagan had a recurring role in the final season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

In 2005, Meagan finally began appearing in films closer together instead of sporadically over the years. She tried her hand at comedy in 40 Year Old Virgin as a sullen teenager; and was one of a star-studded cast in the action adaptation of Sin City. Meagan’s third film of 2005 was Slither, a purposely B-movie about alien parasites taking over a small town. In 2006, neither of Meagan’s films were considered huge successes, although it was the year she began starring in the ABC series Heroes as Claire Bennett, a cheerleader who can heal from any injury, even death. The role in this series is what propelled Meagan into “It Girl” status.
