Settled in 1643 by English settlers, Princemont was originally named Hartbrook after the name of the small brook that ran through the town. However after the death of the town founder, Samuel Prince - the town was renamed Princemont. In the centuries since it's birth, Princemont has grown in size to it's current population of over 3,000 citizens.

Founded on the coast of Long Island Sound, Princemont has always boost a shoreline with plenty of sea life - as interested turned to recreation Princemont provided the public with access to the beach. In the summer months, there are two open life guard stations occupied for most of the day - when life guards are not on duty large signs alert visitors of the lack of life guards. It is during the summer that the beach seems to take on the life force of the town, from sunbathers to sand castle builders to the occasional person attempting to surf.
