announcement (ludivine)
So this journal was basically an exact copy of ~snezana over at GJ and I've realized that I actually needed some change. Not a massive overhaul, but enough of one so things feel a little more fresh. I've set up new shop, this time at IJ since the # of games at Scribbld and LJ respectively is v. low and, well, all of my own games are over there anyway. I've friends-locked all the old icon entries here and won't be accepting any new friends since this journal is officially defunct as both a CDJ and icon journal. If you've been following me here and would like to continue to, please add me and comment at (please do comment, because it's supposed to be a demonstration that you've read and understood the rules, considering the trouble I've had with people NOT doing so): PIGALLE @ IJAnd for CDJ purposes, if you were added here and haven't added me there already, I am thouvenin. Yes, I did take down a few more icon batches in the move--sorry! Icons that are over a year old just make me cringe something awful. Anyway, there are a few glitches yet, I'm sure, like links pointing to the wrong thing, but I'll fix them as I see them and pretty things up a bit more. Thanks for bearing with me!

IF SOMETHING IS MARKED AS "DO NOT TAKE", DO NOT TAKE IT.Likewise, DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM MY USERINFOS, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT ASKING. It's incredibly rude to both completely ignore a very conspicuous request like "don't take" under every icon and to not even bother contacting me to get permission in case I'd allow it. I really don't know how much clearer I can be, and I am absolutely fucking sick to death of people going through either my personal journals or character journals and taking things. PLEASE learn some e-manners, and common sense dictates that people are far more likely to allow you to have something if you ask nicely rather than just going ahead and seizing. If I make something to share, it's going to be in an icon post on this journal--I don't think respecting my desire to keep some things for my own personal use is an unreasonable demand. I realize I can't actually do anything about it, but it still makes you look like an asshat.

Okay, maybe a tad dramatic but still. I've never been in a game as long as VP before. I will miss it like mad! So many memories and almost of the them good! I have my regrets, mostly related to participation. I feel like I'll never get to play some of these characters again, due to the uniqueness of VP and that's probably what I'll miss most. Another huge thing is the camaraderie. I have no games right now, and although I don't have much time to chat and/or RP during the week, it was always nice to know I could drop in chat whenever I needed some social interaction. I was considering taking a break from RP but if anyone has any suggestions for a game you think I'd like, please do tell! Okay, I am going to go cry for a bit now.

This song's been in my head as applicable to UC, so I thought I'd post it up and share some of the somewhat fitting lyrics with all you lovely people! Pulp - The Day after the Revolution. A revolution happened. Oh, sorry, you haven't heard? We are the children of the new world. If you're quiet you can watch if you like. They say the future's beginning tonight. Whole empires will crumble. Civilisations will fall.

the parent meme revisited (ballyknock: headgirl)
I'm going to repost this because I realised I should have put a little more thought into the phrasing. Anyway, we've all seen the parent meme that connie came up with and it was suggested that we do it for UC! But I think instead of looking at it as a meme we should look at it as a question instead! So...tell us about your character's parents! PBs are still optional and feel free to be as detailed or brief as you like. (For reference this was our last question asked.)

Navin's iPod (ballyknock: rubytuesday)
( The iPod Meme: Navin Finnigan ) <lj-cut text="The iPod Meme: Navin Finnigan">
I.THEMESONGS 1. Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto 3 Widely considered one of the most difficult piano pieces in existence, Navin has dedicated large portions of his time to learning to play it. Anyone who's spent much time around him at all would likely associate it with him. 2. Cake - "End of the Movie" A song with an odd combination of cynicism and determination and hope, it fits Navin well. He's highly skeptical of the world and everyone in it, but at the same time, he's not giving up on them. 3. Radiohead - "How Can You Be Sure" The skepticism comes into play again. Navin doubts everything, and right down to the title, this one fits. 4. Colin James Hay - "Waiting for my Real Life To Begin" This is a song about considering the place you're in merely a placeholder, with a dream of something better to come. that's sort of how Navin considers Hogwarts. 5. The Badlees - "Fear of Falling" "I have no fear of falling, but I hate hitting in the ground", the song says. Essentially, Navin likes a good rush, but only if he's planned it out enough that he's not going to be feeling any dire consequences for it. 6. The Old 97s - "Timebomb" Navin loves his acoustic rock. That's not all, though. The song states "I've got a timebomb in my mind, Mom" - Navin also has part of him that's not as calm and stable and patient as he seems. Underneath the cool exterior is real passion. 7. Spoon - "I Turn My Camera On" "I turn my camera on I cut my fingers on the way I feel me slippin away I wipe my feelings off Y'made me untouchable for life And you wasn't polite"
In some ways, Navin feels a bit like an observer in the world who has a responsibility to be the cool and calm one. That's probably why he connects here.
II.SONGS OF CHILDHOOD 1. Song: To Celia It's a poem by Ben Jonson, but when the twins were very little their dad made up a tune to it and would sing it as a lullaby. 2. Boston - "More Than a Feeling" Another Dad song - it's one Seamus Finnigan used to listen to a lot when they were kids. 3. Radiohead - "Black Star" And one last song that Dad loves. Navin will forever associate this song with sitting in the kitchen while his dad worked on dinner, singing at the top of his lungs even though the notes were a bit too high for him. 4. Handel - "Water Music Suite" Navin took from Padma her love of the Baroque. Handel is one of his favorites. 5. Billy Joel - "For The Longest Time" Another Padma song. As small children, Niamh and Navin repeatedly demanded that this song be played over and over until the tape broke. 6. "Today" - various artists "Today while the blossom still clings to the vine / I'll eat your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine" - another lullaby Seamus used to sing for the kids as babies. It's pretty much pure nostalgia for Navin.
III.FIRSTS (OR REBELLION) a.First Kiss: Spiritualized - "She Kissed Me (It Felt Like A Hit)" "Don't care if this is hit or miss 'Cause then she kissed me and it felt like a hit"
b.First Love: Neko Case - "That Teenage Feeling" "I don't care if forever never comes 'cause I'm holding out for that teenage feeling" c.First Rebellion: The Flaming Lips - "Turn It On" "Turn it on Turn it on and all the way up Turn it on If it ain't got no relation To any other station Turn it on"
Because when Navin rebels, it's not going to be something huge. It's just going to be turning it on and slowly turning it up because he's found something -different- that interests him.
d.First Mistake: Liz Phair - "Beginning To See The Light" "You want me home but I'm gone all night and we've probably been in some kind of fight and if that's not real, then that's not right and I'm beginning to see the light"
Because when Navin makes a mistake, he can usually be convinced that he was wrong. IV.FIVE FOR FIVE (PEOPLE) 1. Niamh: Niamh is Navin's only sibling, possibly the most important person to him. Navin associates all of "that dance crap" she listens to with her, but he also attaches a lot of "actual good songs" to her, as well. Joan Osborne's "Crazy Baby", The Nixons' "Sister", Te Cardigans "Please Sister", Cream's "Strange Brew", Voxtrot's "Mothers Sisters Daughters and Wives", and Veruca Salt's "Aurora" are primary among them.
AND NOW I NEED MORE PEOPLE. Because I already did his parents, yeah? I'll make awesome playlists for your characters, you guys. I just need some backstory! Please? There are people Navin's been in the Ravenclaw tower with for years, people who are good friends with his twin sister...he's got to have some friends or exes or something somewhere. Help a girl out?
V.BREAK-UP SONGS 1. Barenaked Ladies - "Light Up My Room 2. Blind Faith - "Can't Find My Way Home" 3. Carbon Leaf - "On Any Given Day" 4. Counting Crows - "Raining In Baltimore", "Rain King", "Time and Time Again"...and okay, pretty much the whole August and Everything After album 5. The Cowboy Junkies - "Sweet Jane" 6. Great Big Sea - "Feel It Turn" 7. Ryan Adams - "Cry On Demand" 8. Spoon - "Anything You Want" 9. Tori Amos - "Leather" and "Silent All These Years" 10. Mika - "Erase"
VI.ANGRY SONGS 1. Of Montreal - "Suffer For Fashion" 2. Syntax - "Destiny" 3. Muse - "Apocalypse Please" 4. Flogging Molly - "Rebels of the Sacred Heart" and "Black Friday Rule" and "Every Dog Has Its Day" 5. Cake - "Wheels" 6. The Killers - "When You Were Young"
VII.HAPPY SONGS 1. The Old 97s - "Victoria" "She lost her lover to an accident at sea She pushed him overboard, and ended up with me"
2. The Teddybears - "Yours To Keep" And I'm yours to keep if you want to
3. Neil Young - "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" Everybody seems to wonder what it's like down here I gotta get away from this day to day running around everybody knows this is nowhere.
4. The Allman Bros - "Jessica" 5. Count Basie - "One O'Clock Jump" 6. The Be Good Tanyas - "The Littlest Birds" "I have those wanderin' blues and The littlest birds sing the prettiest songs"
7. Billy Idol - "Dancing With Myself" "With the record collection and the mirror's reflection I'm dancing with myself"
VIII.BRINGING SEXYBACK Okay, I'm not quite sure about this one yet. I'll have to work on that one.
IX.MOTIVATION/WORKOUT/DANCE SONGS 1. Dispatch - "Hey Hey" Say what you want, Say what you mean, Question yourself, are you really what you seem?"
2. The Ditty Bops - "Wake Up" "Breath deep Speak out Make up your mind Be brave Follow your dreams Listen to your heart Close your eyes Make a wish"
3. The Donnas - "Take It Off" Okay, so not his usual genre at all, but he loves it, and it's good for getting pumped up. He'll usually listen to this one before Quidditch Matches.
4. Flogging Molly - The whole "Drunken Lullabies" album. Navin's other favorite pre-Quidditch music.
Of the iPods out there, what style/colour does your character own? 30 gig, black. He likes the black, and he needs more than 4 gigs, but with the 8 gig costing as much as the 30, why not go for the thirty? How many songs are there in your character's library? 2000 or so. Which band is most represented on your character’s iPod? Counting Crows Which song is the most played? Counting Crows, "Time And Time Again" Any quirks/details about your character’s iPod or its usage? Navin tends to make a playlist and listen to it a lot for about a month. As such, he usually labels them by month. He also makes playlists for specific occasions, events, and people, so you'll also find playlists labeled as "Niamh" or "Christmas Party" or "Ravenclaw Commons" or something like that.

iPod Meme! (ballyknock: wilde)
Hey guys! Last night, Yas and I compiled a new meme for the comm. We actually have quite a few ideas, so look for more in the coming weeks. As always, there's no obligation! This one's a little intensive, so if you want to post your playlists in chunks over the next little while, that's cool. Do what you will! If you want to add a playlist, maybe about a person or what have you, go for it!
Just a general reminder: try and comment to other peoples' posts! This comm is just as much about character development as it is about getting to develop relationships between players and characters! And a quick question: would you guys like us to attempt to migrate entries over here? I don't know how possible it is, but let me know if you'd like us to do something along those lines. Happy memeing! THE IPOD MEME Music says a lot about a person and how they relate to the world! An iPod can tell you more about your friend than hours of conversation, and we thought this might be a good way to open your character up through insights that might not be otherwise disclosed. Taking away the future and magical context for a moment, fill out the survey – either IC or OOC – in whatever manner you choose. You might want to add commentary, highlight important lyrics, or simply list the songs. Whatever you do, try and keep the survey in-tune with your characters generic sensibilities. This should be enlightening not just through lyrics, but through the mood, tempo and genre of a song! ( MORE... )

stolen from many! mona and demelza and their current states of mind. DEMELZA: she's just pissed off, really. fucking slytherins. l mean COME ON, how stupid do people have to be NOT to expect a slytherin at the bottom of this? an elitist, bitchy mother's boy pulls out a gun and shoots the former headmaster who loved the poor. WHERE IS THE SHOCK THERE? yeah, she's gotten over her initial freaking out over it all, and being the type not to think long terms, hasn't even BEGUN to consider the repercussions for scholarship students this could have with Dumbledore completely out of the picture. Though she is kind of bummed that Harry probably WON'T be playing cricket this year, then. MONA: she's fairly devestated, to be honest. Not about Dumbledore's death, because the man was past his prime, elderly, and this did natural selection a favor; but she's TRAUMATIZED over the public reaction/media attention/student devastation as it came under HER WATCH, and slytherin is going to get scapegoated for all of it. she's not an idiot, and KNOWS a slytherin head position is a fair rarity, and having the house falling apart under her direct watch with the draco implications is traumatizing her. she's trying to follow samantha's lead and be comforting to the younger students etc etc, and also bit the bullet and gave blaise her sympathy; but she's far better at giving orders and maintaining discipline than she is at providing the tact this sort of situation handles. i imagine she's publicly going to keep all image of being head girl up well, though friends may note her slipping away every ten minutes or so to eat out her worries on processed sugar. they might also note any sweets around the common room/dorms have mysteriously disapperared, only to make their way into her trunk.

I don't really know how much I'm going to use this. All my other games moved to InsaneJournal, and Scribbld.net has never worked very well for me. I'm going to try and keep it as updated as I can, though my icon journal will be over there so if anyone wants to be affiliates... I'm down with it. I can't believe how smoothly Euphoria Lane's move was. We had a tonne of volunteers who helped me move things, and I really couldn't have been more grateful. It also looks like I posed the question of moving just in time. Kind of funny how that happened. And now I am UTTERLY STARVING. Thank GOD it's payday!

Welcome to Ballyknock, Ireland! (ballyknock: ministry)
Ballyknock: the last great bastion of friendly neighbourhood camaraderie! Though a Wizarding Village since 1327, this Irish settlement has always maintained a level of friendly community that survived even their slight population boom in 2015. Seeming to belong to another time, Ballyknock maintains and supplies the rest of the Wizarding World with magical fauna, flora, bird and beast. It's the perfect place to get to know your neighbour, so pull up a barstool, grab a pint, and introduce yourself (and your characters) in unconquered's storyline community! For your own reference, here is a list of the intentions and very loose guidelines of ballyknock! THE PURPOSE 1) In-character weekly questions. These will be posed by the mods and are to be answered by your characters. There's no obligation, but it'll keep creativity flowing. 2) Surveys! Players can post various surveys filled out or empty for other members to use as they will. 3) Storyline pleas! Do you need a cousin? Friend? Enemy? FRIENEMY? Request that here! 4) Backstory, in the form of logs or simple recountings. Did your kid have an embarassing moment in third year everyone would remember? Share it! Remember: you're not obligated to respond to our weekly questions, and you certainly don't have to feel limited by them. This is almost a completely unmoderated community, so don't worry about rules. As long as you keep it respectful, anything goes!

"Sometimes, when we lose ourselves in fear and despair, in routine and constancy, in hopelessness and tragedy, we can thank God for Bavarian sugar cookies. And, fortunately, when there aren't any cookies, we can still find reassurance in a familiar hand on our skin, or a kind and loving gesture, or subtle encouragement, or a loving embrace, or an offer of comfort, not to mention hospital gurneys and nose plugs, an uneaten Danish, soft-spoken secrets, and Fender Stratocasters, and maybe the occasional piece of fiction. And we must remember that all these things, the nuances, the anomalies, the subtleties, which we assume only accessorize our days, are effective for a much larger and nobler cause. They are here to save our lives. I know the idea seems strange, but I also know that it just so happens to be true." friends only
