Oh So Much Work
I've been getting hit with a lot of work lately. It's definitely nice to always be busy, but maybe it's too busy for me. I think I just need to get used to how busy I am and deal with it.

I'm really happy that the weather has been really nice. I think I've been out riding every single day which is really nice. It' definitely showing on the boys too.

Not much else to say really. I'm still eating the cookies that [info]raf sent me for my birthday. Tonight I think the boyfriend is coming over, and I think we'll go out to dinner, I don't really feel like cooking (mostly because I can't) and he's been working all day, so I'll let him off the hook :D He's actually thinking about moving in with me, which is totally find with me, I've got plenty of space, but we'll see.

Have a lovely day everyone!

Oops...
Well, yesterday was rather uneventful. I basically spent a large portion of the day working the horses. I took one of them on a trail ride which was a lot of fun. We also did some bathes, which was as usual, pretty crazy haha. I got soaking wet.

Oops. I forgot to submit this entry, it's now Tuesday, I started it on Monday. My bad, I told [info]raf I would so that he would have something to read during his class, I'm sorry haha.

So yesterday, I got sidetracked and started working on something else, and my pizza, which was really good. After working on those few things, I went out for a ride since it was so incredibly nice out. I think we took like 4-5 hour trail ride which was awesome, I even brought a sandwich and few slices of that pizza and I kind of made it my little picnic dinner :D Definitely had an awesome time.

After getting back I took a shower and went out with some friends and the boyfriend. We just went to this local restaurant, good food, good time.

Today, I've been working on a bunch of computer that need repairs or upgrades. It's been getting pretty busy, probably cause all the kids are heading back to school and all. So that's what I've been doing most of today, I'm finishing up the last of my pizza from yesterday for todays lunch.

I am going riding again this afternoon/evening so that will be fun.

Have a lovely day people!

Accountability

Leo Babauta of Zen Habits posted 4 Simple Steps to Start the Exercise Habit nearly a year ago which, while focused on physical exercise, can really be applied to any exercise. In my case, the exercise is this web site.

While he outlines four steps, it really breaks down into two fundamental rules:

  • Set an achievable and measurable goal
  • Make yourself accountable to others as well as yourself.

While my overall goal is to get out of debt, I’ll be setting smaller, easily attainable goals along the way. Getting out of debt is inherently a long process and every little bit can help, but it’s really about building better habits. Creating new habits requires sticking to practices until they come naturally and automatically, so small goals help greatly.

As for holding myself accountable, that’s really what this site is here for. I will report not only my findings on what works for me, what doesn’t, and tips gathered along the way, but also my progress on each of my goals.

My initial goal is to post once per week. I have a number of topics queued up, so you’ll be seeing more from me in less than a week.

Launch Day

Here’s to the beginning of something new!

Today I’m launching slottedpig.info. This site. I’m going to attempt to get myself out of debt, gain a better understanding of personal finance while doing so, and publish my findings here for everybody to read.

I wanted to have some additional accountability in my attempt to bring balance to the financial side of my life, hence the site. I also wish this to be an easier process for at least one other person in the world, so I hope that by writing here regularly I can do that.

Startup Costs

I’m trying to get out of debt, so I wanted to launch this site with as little financial impact on myself as possible. I think I was successful:

  • $8.00 – slottedpig.info domain (via Gandi ; .us, .biz, .etc would have been $15)
  • $14.00 – slick piggybank stock photos (via iStockPhoto ; I’ve actually only used $2.80 of it so far)
  • $0.00 – Textpattern CMS
  • $0.00 – Hosting via my own server & Internet connection
  • $0.00 – < 8 hrs initial configuration (Subversion, MySQL, and Textpattern) and design/development (XHTML & CSS)

$22 is not bad at all. Of course, there will be ongoing expenses (like my Internet connection), so I’ll have minimal advertizing to try to cover it. However, I’m not looking to make this site a primary form of income.

Head over heels is the only way I can describe it, and my confession is that I am so overanalytical and slightly insecure that I’m afraid if I give this whole situation more thought, the bubble will burst completely.

I’m afraid that if I let my logical side come through, even for a moment, it will all disappear…

I’m afraid that people I know would be severely disappointed if they found out that the world’s most rational, reasonable, skeptical girl could get into a situation like this.

At the same time, I am so much happier. I am hopeful, I am optimistic, I am beyond rationalizing and reasoning and questioning. For once, it has been rewarding to allow instinct to take over.

Side Project: Slotted Pig

This weekend I whipped up and launched a new side project: Slotted Pig.

I’ll be regularly posting about my quest to get out of debt and what I’m learning on the way. I’ll highly encourage discussion along the way because what works for me may not work for everyone and I’d like to hear what others are trying.

Home Again!
Hiya everyone,

I am finally back home. We actually got in around 10am or so. We flew into Manchester so we had to drive home from there. I almost stayed so I could go to the shooting ranger down there and shoot some MP5s and AR-15s, but I had to get home to the horses and the dog.

When we got home I checked in on them and got some things put away and some laundry in the wash and then I headed out to the office where my present from [info]raf was waiting for me :D Basically it was the cutest best present ever!! It was some really yummy cookies! They're like oreos covered in frosting or something, with pretty little umm "icons" on them haha LIke one is a cupcake and I think another is an ice cream cone and there are a few other designs. Basically it's like eating a chunk of sugar, but I love it hehee! They came in this cute little box too hehe So thanks Raf, I really appreciate it, you are such a best friend and I love you truly!

So hrmm, this afternoon, I'm not really doing that much, just hanging out, I'm a bit tired, so I'll probably just watch a movie or something. I hope everyone is having a nice weekend, Raf is out in the middle of no where, probably being eaten alive by some bugs or something...

I'm going to snack on those cookies and watch some Jet Li I think :D

I haven't slept in over 48 hours. Last night, I flew all over the world- to end up with Kate having wonderful adventures. Beth was there. SHE WAS THERE. Oh gosh, it was wonderful. I feel recharged. My stomach aches. I think I might be sick, but some part of me doesn't really mind.

I can twist myself into the most awkward poses, and i'm sure I made the most awkward faces when I tried to stand back up. Hahaha. I wobbled out. I was so happy. I could've stayed like that for days.

It's not weed, it's not Jagermeister. It's not adderall or vicodin. It's not my stale, squashed cigarettes- salvia or synthetic opiates. I wish it was moon-clock time.

Is this love?

Almost My Birthday!
Well it's almost my birthday. Tonight I am alone in the hotel room, the boyfriend is off with a couple friends for the night, I actually am enjoying it. Today we just walked around San Francisco, I did a bit of shopping, hit up the Apple Store, I almost bought a new iMac, but I thought it would be a real pain in the ass to get that shipped home...of course I can just hit up the Apple store that's like 10-15 minutes from home and get one...I kind of want one of the 24" iMacs...anyways, I ordered some pizza, which actually just got here. I'm chatting with my good friend [info]raf -- he's so funny, he always makes me laugh.

He got me a present (like I previously mentioned) and he won't tell me what it is. It's sitting at the FedEx facility back home...he said it was edible...so uuuh, I hope it doesn't need to be in cold storage or something haha it's been in transit for a week now...tomorrow they'll drop it off at the office. Anyways, I really cannot wait to see what it is...I have a feeling it's going to be awesome.

Hrmm, so our flight leaves Friday afternoon, we'll get into NH around 10am and then we're driving my car back to home, yay. I'll probably make my boyfriend drive so I can sleep in the car or something haha

I've definitely had an awesome time out here. It's really something that I needed, it's been too long since I've taken a good vacation. It really felt good to be with the boyfriend too, I think we've got things figured out and all too, which is really nice.

Ok, enough rambling, I'm off to go watch a movie and chat with friends.

Tomorrow is my birthday, YAY!!! Actually no, I hate being old. Ugh!

Sysmon Startup Item with Leopard Launchd Support

I’ve been sitting on, and tweaking infrequently, a launchd plist for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (and Server, of course) for launching the Sysmon daemon at boot and keeping it running. Well, it’s time to release it out into the wild, so without further ado:

sysmon-startupitem-0.4.tar.gz

This is an update to my Sysmon StartupItem in that I’ve rewritten the install script to install either the StartupItem or the launchd plist file where appropriate (utilizing the little trick I wrote about a few days ago), plus updates to the documentation and such. It should support Panther & Tiger via the StartupItem and Leopard via the launchd plist. Of course, more details and previous versions can be found on the Development page.

Let me know how it goes if you use it.

Hiya Friends!
Hey everyone!! Sorry I've not updated (and I wouldn't really call this an update either), but I've been really busy lately. I'm in California right now with my boyfriend, we're coming back on Friday (should get back home by Saturday in the afternoon I believe). We've been having a lot of fun, but I definitely want to get home soon, I am too in love with home!! Although I do really like it out here, I wouldn't mind moving out here either.

So yeah, apparently [info]raf got me a birthday present, and I really really want to know what it is. Apparently it is edible but that could be one of a million different things. It'll be here on Friday so that's cool. My birthday is in 2 days, I am going to be so old haha BLAACH! I can't wait though, it'll be fun, the BF says he's got something special but we'll see about that.

Alright before I just keep going on and on, I better stop, we're about to go out to dinner anyways!
