Overwhelmed with the Ordinary

Heading out soon. @ 01:35 pm

Motel has free internet; hopefully I'll get connected at some point.

Take care.

Pretty pictures of the boys over at [info]gorgeousgeezers. David Soul courtesy [info]shfan. Go loooook.

I'm at the point in this vid where I'm throwing shit up and seeing what sticks. *G* Why, yes, that is a lot of my method, lol.

Current Music: Angel fom Montgomery - Bonnie Raitt

I may take a nice hot bath tonight and read Glinda while I soak. :)

Did more vidding. Did some laundry. Yakked up [info]enednoviel because they day isn't complete if I don't get to talk to her. Took the kids to the orthodontist. Forgot to thaw anything for dinner. *facepalm* Burned a dvd of Criminal Minds. Am now listening to Bonnie Raitt "Angel from Montgomery." Did you know this song was a 1974 song? I sure didn't.

Our piano teacher @ 10:49 pm

Current Mood: thoughtful

Gave birth to her baby boy at 4am on Tuesday.

My grandfather died at 9:05pm on Tuesday.

Sunrise, Sunset. The world keeps turning, lives march on.

Thanks to everyone @ 05:52 pm

for your kind and supportive comments. I really do appreciate them.

Funeral is Saturday morning, so we'll head out Friday evening and come back Sunday. My grandmother was remarkably talkative on the phone, but she's pretty shook.

My MIL called for the mailing address. That's too sweet; she doesn't have to do anything - I think she's only ever met them a bare handful of times when the babies were born and at our wedding. She's doing this for me and the kids. *sniff*

In better news, Katie's report card gives her a 3.67 GPA. Considering she was getting some lower grades at the midterm report, she's really pulled them up. *iz proud* She's earned As for Algebra, Language Arts, Science, and PE, and Bs for Social Studies and Health. The Health grade is really due to late work - turn it in late and it starts with a C. Considering she was at a C at midterm, she's worked at being sure her work is on time since. We're not sure what the Social Studies issue is, or maybe it's simply, that was her best work, and if that's the case, then good for her!

Been vidding all day in between laundry rounds. I'm about 2/3 done and it was the harder stuff. The rest should be pretty easy breezy. Will put in the Advent calendar. And SHers, there's still room in that Advent calendar for drabbles, art, vids, stories - come on, folks, let's fill it up! :) Drop a line to [info]enednoviel.

I set Katie to making dinner. I can smell it so I think she's done it right. I have such a headache - crying even a little bit really brings them on.

www.kink.fm all day has been playing music from 1973, and at lunchtime they played the entire Dark Side of the Moon album. It was cool. They'll keep on playing '73 music until 10pm Pacific time (about four hours from now.) Tomorrow it'll be 1974.

FIVE MINUTES, PEOPLE @ 07:57 am

twittering and vidding and writing will just HAVE to occupy my time. Oh, and job #2. I have a meeting at 11. Note to self: you are not on vacation from Job #2.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS last night - NICE boy kissing. Kevin and Scotty are TOO cute. :happy sigh:

Vacation agrees with me, at least today. @ 06:05 pm

Current Mood: productive
Current Music: radio commercial

I finished one vid - it's very rough and I'm not happy with it. Need to sleep on it and figure out what i need to fix.

I started a second vid. Hee.

I wrote a snippet.

Got Jayne to dance class. Dinner's in the oven. Laundry? Pfff.

Can I have two weeks instead of just one?

Random question to throw out @ 03:12 pm

SHers....can you think of a scene where Hutch is gesturing between himself and Starsky, like saying, "you and me"?

Much, much progress made on a vid, hopefully for the Advent calendar. And a snippet. Go go fandom for vacation!

Got the paperwork faxed off to get my AmEx refund for the money it was paid twice, finally.

Disneyland @ 11:50 pm

Roy's listening to me seriously about this, and took my offer of forgoing cons for the year as a sign of my seriousness. DMB would still happen.

He may even approach his parents about Disney money as Christmas gifts instead of taking us shopping like they did last year.

I'm finding the whole package deal thing confusing, though. Most deals talk about two adults, one jr and one child. We'd have 2 jrs and one child. They are not very forthcoming with what an additional person would be, but in looking at their park hopper tickets ourselves, it seems it would just be that and whatever a rollaway bed would be.

In poking around I can find package deals with Alaska and a Clarion hotel that would be $2600 or so altogether for five nights, and then we'd stlll need the five tickets.

I've got friends also looking at accomdations.

Hopefully this would work out. We could even drive and it would be $300 for gas or so, but lots of time in the car with cranky kids and needing food. Hrm.

at any rate, this might happen!

Jumping from this week's PostSecrets...MEME! @ 12:56 pm

Current Mood: amused

Finish this sentence in your journal:
When I was little, I thought....

*************

When I was little, I thought there were little tv cameras at every stoplight and that workers at the Traffic Light Company changed the lights from red to green and back again when they determined traffic needs compelled it.

When I was little I thought the GTE (phone company) building in Cornelius, with its little tiny rectangular windows scattered within the brick walls, was a baby hospital and the windows were for putting brand new babies on display for the public.

When I was little, I thought the bands all came to the radio station to play the songs live when it was their song's turn to be played.

When I was little, I thought the change you got back from a transaction at the store was part of shopping itself - changing paper money into coins.

In completely other news, Justin Timberlake on SNL last night...the boy looks GOOD in a unitard, white hose and black heels.

[info]miintikwa said T! @ 09:07 pm

Current Mood: nervous

you know the drill, ask and ye shall receive.

My ten favorite things starting with T:

1. The Torino!
2. Taking vacation!
3. Tarot cards for their beautiful art and helpful advice
4. Three cats for snuggling
5. Three kids for laughing
6. Two people in love
7. Teaching equality to my children
8. Taking part in a protest march
9. The Week by Kaye Austen Michaels
10. Tides

Working on a vid. Even had sort of a story in my mind to go with it. We shall see where the muses take me.

Since we're already going to be downtown for the protest rally, we're going to head over the the Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden in NE. It's going to be a gorgeously sunny day, but chilly. I have my rainbow scarf that [info]sneezer222 made for me.

Jayne just wrote me a letter:

I love you so Much that I wood never ever replase a mom like the one I have rite now! Love, Jayne

Oh, my heart.... :sniffles:

Packing the backpack so won't have to carry my purse around. We can store scarves and gloves and camera in it that way.

my tentative plans for 2009 @ 08:44 am

Current Mood: blah

I am thinking I may skip all cons this year. (Cries about Constrict) It's purely a money-saving thing. Look, I have three kids and we all want to go to Disneyland but I'm forever traveling.

However, I still want to do the DMB concert since I skipped it this year due to SHarecon. I was planning on EMC, but....dammit, my kids are growing up. I need to buck up and shut up and do the right thing. And [info]master_chatnoir is supposed to be coming to the show, too! (snugs her)

:sigh:

I wish I were made of money.

Instead I shall share lyrics from Dave Matthews Band:

And if I were a king
If I had everything
If I had you and I could give you your dreams
If I were giant-sized, on top of it all
Then tell me what in the world would I go on for
If I had it all

Forty Years of Music @ 07:24 am

Current Mood: sleepy
Current Music: Born To Be Wild - Kink.fm

Today marks the 40th birthday of my favorite radio station, KINK.fm. For the next forty days, t hey're focusing on music for each year. Today is, of course, 1968 - the same year I was born (if at the other end of the year.) They turn 40 on Christmas Day. :)

Listen to it streaming if you'd like to hear - they were Top 40 initially but once their sister station on the AM dial went to Top 40, they switched to album music. I wonder if 1977 will include David Soul (if he hasn't melted his buttery goodness into the radio, lol.) http://www.kink.fm/ click the Listen Live tab.

They have an awesome page up on their site here that I've not fully explored yet but it includes old commercials and old recordings of the air staff (Apparently Les Sarnoff's been around a loooong time!)

I always wondered how they got the call letters KINK and an old program director they've talked to shared - two college kids started this station (Underground KINK). At the time they were owned by KING broadcastin. Jeff enjoyed British music and liked the term kink because at the time it was meant as a slam on the king. He called the FCC to see if the call letters were available. Found they were owned by a ship in SE Asia, so they called the shipping company to check to see if they'd sell, and discoverd the ship had sunk! So they got the call letters for free. So interesting!

They've been playing bits of recorded interviews with old staffers like Jeff, the program director mentioned above. I heard this morning that when they launched, they ended up with a bigger listening audience than KGW - their AM sister station. KINK had a staff of 2.5, and KGW had ten! Go figure, lol.

Forty years later....hey, I got a sticker from them recently. Now the election's over, I need to peel off some from my car and put this one on...

November 13th, 2008

ok, so... @ 09:25 pm

Current Mood: hopeful

We're thinking we might head downtown on Saturday and join the protest march with Join the Impact.

If we made up a sign to carry as a family, what should it say, or show?

All I'm coming up with is something like "STR8 Family Against H8" but I'd like to say something more positive.

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE

LOVE IS NEVER WRONG

EQUALITY FOR ALL FAMILIES

Then there's my icon: LOVE KNOWS NO GENDER

Suggestions?

Keeping those fingers crossed. @ 08:34 pm
