HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVID SOUL @ 07:53 am
Current Mood:
ecstatic
Current Music: Don't Give Up On Us (in my head, now)
I wrote to my morning DJ, who does birthday announcements every morning, including celebrity ones. I made sure he knew it was David's birthday:
Good morning!
My sentimental love for the man compels me to remind you that David Soul, Hutch to Starsky, is 65 today. Don't Give Up on us, Baby!
Have a great day!
Laura
He did, in fact, mention it, first before all the rest of the celebs (which include Billy Boyd, heh). Dana, the traffic and news person (our news person is on vacay) said, "I never knew which was which." Typical. "He's Starsky, I'm Hutch." But Bruce set her straight - he was Hutch. Not that he let her know which one Hutch was, lol.
Then, half an hour later every morning, they play a snippet of a song and folks call in to identify it and win. Bruce told us, "If you looked at the clue earlier this morning, it's no longer valid. There's a new clue up there now for the song today. I changed my mind." Now, I don't think I've ever heard him do that before.
And then the clip? "..painted on..."
Yeah. The shrieking you heard from the PNW? That was me. I was still drying off from my shower but I dashed to the phone - too late, though!
The first guy he had on hold waiting knew the song. Bruce went on to say that the song was at #1 for four weeks in 1977, and that DS re-recorded it in 2004 after it was used in the S&H film.
AND THEN HE PLAYED THE SONG.
People, I have not heard the song on the radio probably SINCE 1977!! Oh, I probably did here and there for a few years after, but I know I've not heard it at all in the nearly two years I've been in S&H fandom.
Bruce emailed me back:
You are a true, true fan.
My reply:
YOU WIN KING OF THE WORLD!! I have every radio in the house on, playing.
I tried to call in, but wow, others knew it, too! YEAH!! Instead I woke up my children with my whooping that you were going to play it!!!
I've not heard this song on the radio since I was....nine...when the song was #1, lol.
You have made my entire week. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Personally, I think the 2004 version is better, lol! Much more mature sounding.
I am back from a weekend in Baltimore where we held a Starsky and Hutch fan convention - it was SO much fun, and it was the first time I'd attended. It was wonderful, so this is definitely ten cherries on top of the Hutch sundae!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Want to hear it?
