“I dunno,” Jayne said, and stuck his foot out to get a better look. “Not sure ‘bout the spikes.”

Kaylee giggled. “I like ‘em. Adds damage and they make you look scary-like. Not thatcha need help, but…”

“Yeah.” He got up and stomped around for a bit, scaring three customers out of the store. The assistant looked ill. “Oh, yeah. I like the noise. Good ‘n thumpy.”

Kaylee nodded decisively. “Get ‘em, then. Oooh, I like those buckles too, they make it all sparkly.”

“Sparkly?” Jayne frowned and twisted to look. “Don’t think I like sparkles…”

“Special discount!” the assistant put in, clearly desperate to make the sale and get the scary man out of his store so the socialites he usually catered to would return. “Fifty percent off, just for you!”

“Go on,” Kaylee said, and grinned.

“Oh, fine,” Jayne said. “Ain’t never taking you shoe-shopping again, though.”
